2nd Forum for Tourism Investment in Africa, INVESTOUR 2011, to be held at FITUR

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) and Africa House, in cooperation with ICEX and the Sub-Saharan Africa Working Group of the Inter-Territorial Internationalization Council and coordinated by Proexca, CEOE, CEIM, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, FEAAV and CEHAT, are organizing the second Forum for Tourism Investment in Africa – INVESTOUR 2011, to be held on January 20, 2011 at FITUR.

The first INVESTOUR event was a great success, featuring the participation of over 300 people and 29 African countries, with 112 projects presented. On that occasion, the African region invited was ECOWAS, thus fulfilling the commitment made by the President of Spain with the heads of state of the ECOWAS countries at the summit held in Abuja in June 2009. The ECOWAS was represented by Mr. Mohamed Daramy, Commissioner for Trade, Customs and Free Movement.

Participating in this second event will be every African country in addition to the invited region, Southern Africa, represented by the SADC regional group and its 15 member countries: Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Five of these countries are among the top ten in Africa in the number of tourists received every year.

The main objectives of the forum are to present projects in African countries to companies in Spain’s tourism industry and to promote exchanges between operators in Spain and Africa in the following areas:
  • Financing and investing in tourism projects
  • Promoting and representing destinations in Spain’s outbound market
  • Creating and improving non-equipment hotel facilities
  • Ecotourism packages in national parks and protected areas
  • Promoting wildlife tourism, such as safaris
  • Promoting cultural tourism
  • Technology transfers in hotel and tourism operations
  • Infrastructure and transportation
