ESOI announces dates of seventh and eighth Practising Responsible Tourism workshops
To be held in Srinagar on September 26 and 27, 2011 and in Leh on September 30 and October 1, 2011
Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) will hold its seventh and eighth workshops on “Practising Responsible Tourism” in Srinagar on September 26 and 27, 2011 and in Leh on September 30 and October 1, 2011. The workshop is being organised by Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) in partnership with Jammu and Kashmir Tourism and WWF India, with support from Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Over 100 travel trade delegates are expected to attend. The Srinagar workshop will also commemorate the World Tourism Day on the September 27.
Speaking on the agendas of the workshops, Mandip Singh Soin, President, ESOI, said, “The workshops aim at setting corrective and curative measures with regard to tourism practices in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. The challenge for the tourism service providers is in implementing environmentally responsible and sustainable tourism practices. These practices will not only create a lighter footprint but will support the local communities and environment”.

According to a media release, among others, Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Govt of Jammu and Kashmir, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Tourism and Culture, and Nasir Aslam Wani, Minister of State, Tourism and Culture, Dr. Venu V, IAS, Secretary Tourism, Government of Kerala, Ajoy Bhattacharya, CEO, Madhya Pradesh Ecotourism Devt. Board, will be participating at the workshops.

1. Need for Responsible Tourism Practices in the Himalayas
2. Sharing models of International and Indian Best Practices.
3. Public – Private Partnership in Ecotourism initiatives
4. Protection of Heritage Buildings and Art and Cultural preservation
5. Wild Life Protection and its law
6. Ecological Architecture
7. Waste Management & Renewable Energy in usage.
8. Environmental Law and its relevance in tourism sector
9. Need for Ecotourism Certification
