On June 15th, 2012, the UNWTO ST-EP Foundation hosted a workshop on Sustainable Tourism Eliminating Poverty and particularly the Millennium Villages as Sustainable Tourism initiative, on the occasion of the visit in Korea of H.E. Abay Weldu, President of the Regional Government of Tigray in Ethiopia, Korean tourism professionals have been invited to participate, including representatives of major travel agencies, tour operators and airlines companies, having interest in the Africa as a tourist destination.
Hosted in partnership with the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), this workshop was an opportunity to exchange views about tourism opportunities in Ethiopia for the Korean market. This event has received a very positive response from all the participants, and the Korean professionals and policy makers expressed their interest in launching an official working group aimed to develop tourism in Africa through regular meetings and public-private partnerships.
