The 3rd edition of the T.20, the meeting of the Tourism Ministers of G20 countries will be held in Paris on October 25th.
The meeting will focus on the indirect impact of tourism in the economy and will be chaired this year by the French Secretary of State for Trade, Crafts, Small and Medium Businesses, Services, Liberal Professions, Consumption and Tourism, Mr. Frédéric Lefebvre. It is interesting to notice that while France is is the 2nd world tourism destination, tourism does not seem noble enough to deserve its own Ministry.
The 2nd edition of the T20 was held in Buyeo, Rep. of Korea in October 2010. On that occasion, the participating Ministers adopted the Buyeo Declaration outlining four goals for the tourism industry: accelerating economic growth and prosperity, increasing employment, contributing to the world development agenda, and promoting sustainable development.
I am still desperately looking for the text of that Buyeo declaration and I am very surprised Korea has not used it as a legacy of its successful hosting of the G20.
But then again, tourism is barely seen as a priority in crisis time ...
